Nephilim 一词来自希伯来语，字面意思是“堕落者” （fallen ones）， 指神的儿子（天使）与人类女性生育的后代，翻译成：巨人，尼非订，上古英武有名的人等。
在圣经旧约创世纪6:1-4中用来描述“上帝的儿子们”和“人类之女”结合，这令人震惊但简短的叙述是如此超自然和奇怪，人们为“上帝的儿子们”（” the sons of God”）这个词组的含义争论了很多年。
Nephilim 是堕落天使（神的儿子们）与人所生的变种，神发动挪亚洪水，就是要毁灭这些非自然的变种。
希伯来词nefilim有时被直接翻译为“巨人”或被认为是“堕落的人”(来自希伯来语的naphal，“堕落”)，但学者们目前依旧对Nephilim的身份争论不休。有些人反驳说，认为天使或恶魔作为纯粹的精神存在，可以在肉体上与人类繁殖，在神学上是有问题的。
