Take the Simatai Great Wall and Gubei Water Town Day Tour for a unique experience of Beijing’s countryside. Located in the Simatai Village of Gubeikou Town, Miyun District, Gubei Water Town is known for its picturesque setting and traditional architecture reminiscent of the water towns in southern China. This international tourist resort combines sightseeing, leisure, business, and cultural experiences.
Adjacent to the town lies the Simatai Great Wall, a section famous for its steep and rugged terrain. Recognized by UNESCO as the only section of the Great Wall that retains its original appearance, Simatai offers breathtaking views and a glimpse into China’s ancient history. Additionally, visit the Yongshun Dyehouse in the town to experience traditional Chinese dyeing techniques and even create your own handcrafted piece.
Itinerary:
Morning:
7:30 AM: Take the 2-hour drive to Gubei Water Town.
9:30 AM: Upon arrival, your first stop will be the Simatai Great Wall. This section is renowned for its distinctive steepness and the preservation of 20 original watchtowers. As you hike along the wall, you’ll experience its rugged beauty and take in the panoramic views from Wangjing Tower, situated at an elevation of 1,000 meters, where on clear days, you can see the distant skyline of Beijing.
Midday:
12:30 PM: After descending the Great Wall, you will enjoy a traditional Chinese lunch at one of the local restaurants in Gubei Water Town. The meal will feature local specialties, allowing you to relax and refuel for the afternoon activities.
Afternoon:
2:00 PM: Post-lunch, you’ll have the opportunity to explore Gubei Water Town. Stroll through the various cultural zones, including the Old Camp Area, Republic Street Area, and Water Street Area, where you’ll experience the blend of ancient architecture and scenic water views.
3:00 PM: Visit the Yongshun Dyehouse in the Water Street Area. This dyehouse is famous for its traditional Chinese dyeing techniques, including natural dyes and hand-crafted patterns. You will have the chance to observe the dyeing process and create your own unique dyed fabric as a memorable keepsake from your visit.
4:30 PM: After your exploration of Gubei Water Town, you will return to your vehicle for the drive back to Beijing. Use this time to relax and reflect on the day’s experiences.
6:30 PM: Arrive back at your hotel, marking the end of your Simatai Great Wall and Gubei Water Town Day Tour.
