Day 1:
Morning:
8:00 AM: You will then embark on a 1.5-hour drive to the Mutianyu Great Wall.
9:30 AM: Arrive at Mutianyu Great Wall. Take a cable car up to the wall and begin your exploration. Mutianyu is known for its fewer crowds and beautiful surroundings. Stroll along the wall, taking in the breathtaking views and learning about the Wall’s history and significance.
Midday:
12:30 PM: Enjoy a traditional Chinese lunch at a restaurant near the Great Wall. After lunch, take some time to relax and recharge before continuing your journey.
Afternoon:
2:00 PM: After lunch, drive to Gubei Water Town, which is about 1.5 hours away. Upon arrival, start exploring this beautiful town, which features a combination of traditional architecture and scenic waterways. Wander through the Water Street area, enjoy the local crafts, and soak in the serene atmosphere.
Evening:
6:30 PM: Have dinner at a local restaurant in Gubei Water Town. After dinner, take a leisurely stroll to enjoy the town’s beautiful night scenery. Then, check into your unique guesthouse in the town for a restful night.
Day 2:
Morning:
8:00 AM: After breakfast, head to the Simatai Great Wall, known for its steep and rugged terrain. This section of the wall has been preserved in its original state, offering a more authentic Great Wall experience. The hike will take you through some of the most challenging and rewarding sections of the wall, with stunning views all around.
Midday:
12:30 PM: Enjoy lunch at a restaurant near the Simatai Great Wall. Take some time to rest and discuss the morning’s hike.
Afternoon:
2:00 PM: After lunch, you can either continue exploring Gubei Water Town at your leisure or relax in the town’s peaceful environment.
3:30 PM: Depart from Gubei Water Town and drive back to Beijing.
6:00 PM: Arrive back at your hotel, marking the end of your Mutianyu and Simatai Great Wall with Gubei Water Town 2-Day Tour.

Hello, we are a family of 3 (2 adults and a 11 yo daughter). We will be visiting Beijing in April next year and we would love to visit the great wall at Mutianyu (day) and Simatai (sunset experience). The 2 day tour you offer is very nice but probably a bit long and potentially out of our budget. Would you be able to offer a similar tour considering we can cut out meals, accomodation, guided tours, entrance fees (to be paid on top of course). In a nutshell ideally we would like something much simpler: Fully Day – Early transport from Beijing to Mutianyu where we can visit on our own – Transport from Mutianyu to Simatai on time to stroll around and have the sunset experience on the wall – Transport back to Beijing in the evening – Help booking entrances to Simatai if reservation site in chinese Would you be able to offer something like this? at which rate? Based on your request for a simpler and more flexible experience, I recommend that you hire a private car and driver through the staff at your hotel or private car rental service in Beijing. This option is quite convenient and allows you to visit both Mutianyu and Simatai at your own pace.
Here’s a suggested itinerary for your day:
Early Transport to Mutianyu: Your driver can pick you up from your hotel in the morning and take you directly to the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall. You’ll be free to explore independently.
Transport from Mutianyu to Simatai: After you’ve had enough time at Mutianyu, your driver can take you to Simatai, where you can enjoy the sunset experience.
Return to Beijing: After your visit to Simatai, the driver will bring you back to your hotel in the evening.
For the Simatai sunset experience, reservations are required in advance as visitor numbers are limited. Your hotel or a local travel agent at your hotel can assist with booking the entrance tickets if needed. Note: Simatai Great Wall is administered by Gubei Water Town “wtown” ( https://www.wtown.com/pc/ ). Gubei Water Town is just below Simatai Great Wall. It is a fun to visit Gubei Water Town. You can buy the combo tickets both for Simatai and Gubei Warer Town.
The cost for hiring a private car and driver for a full day generally ranges between 700-1200 RMB depending on the car type and duration. You can ask your hotel for quotes and assistance with booking. This approach will give you full flexibility while keeping your trip simple and budget-friendly.
