I & my friend plan to visit Wuyuan mid Nov 24. Initial plan is only going to Huangling as we went to Jiangling in rapeseed season 6 yrs ago. But after reading your post, i m wondering that we could see autumn foliage in Wuyuan. In what places will u recommend us? Also if possible , pls kindly advise where to go first and where to stay. We could spend few dayss in Wuyuan.
Our plan isnt fixed yet. We re planning to come to Wuyuan from Sanqingshan. We may hire taxi from didi app to Wuyuan directly. Do u know how much does it cost? And how long does it take? I guess it would be better in term of convenience& comfort to hire taxi directly to Wuyuan than taking train from Shangrao to Wuyuan St. and then hire taxi from Wuyuan St. to Wuyuan attractions.
Well, do u know abt the bus from Shangrao to Sanqingshan? Are these buses big ones in which we can leave our luggages at the compartments?
Hi Gacc,
Thanks for reaching out to Ruqin China Travel!
You have several questions about your trip to Wuyuan and Sanqingshan. Well, I’d like to answer your first question about Wuyuan Travel.
1. Best Places to See Autumn Foliage in Wuyuan
Huangling Village
Huangling is one of the best-known spots for autumn foliage in Wuyuan, and it’s a great choice for your visit. In mid-November, the ancient trees surrounding the village turn shades of red, yellow, and orange, creating a perfect contrast against the white-walled, gray-tiled Huizhou houses. Huangling is also famous for its traditional practice of “Shaiqiu” (晒秋), where locals dry crops like chilies, corn, and pumpkins in bamboo baskets, adding rich textures and colors to the landscape.
Xiaoqi Village
Located close to Huangling, Xiaoqi Village is quieter but equally beautiful. The ancient camphor trees and maple trees in Xiaoqi put on a vibrant autumn display, making it a hidden gem for foliage lovers. The village’s serene atmosphere, combined with the scenic beauty, makes it a must-visit.
Likeng Village
Likeng is another charming village that offers stunning views of fall foliage. The river that flows through the village reflects the golden and red hues of the trees, creating picture-perfect views. This village is known for its historical significance and ancient architecture, which adds to the overall charm of the place in autumn.
Sixi-Yancun (思溪延村景区) “Yancun on the map”
This village complex is often overlooked but offers some of the best scenery in Wuyuan during autumn. Surrounded by rolling hills and ancient trees, Sixi-Yancun is perfect for visitors who want to experience traditional culture and stunning autumn landscapes. The fiery red and golden leaves against the ancient homes and calm rivers make it a scenic destination.
2. Recommended Itinerary: Where to Go First and What to See
Day 1: Arrival and Explore Huangling Village
Arrive in Wuyuan and check in to a guesthouse near Huangling.
Spend your afternoon and evening exploring Huangling Village, where you’ll experience the autumn foliage and the Shaiqiu harvest scenes. Take the cable car up the mountain for panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.
Watch the sunset from the top, as the colors of the autumn leaves are particularly striking at this time of day.
Day 2: Visit Xiaoqi and Likeng Villages
Start the day with a visit to Xiaoqi Village, where you can stroll through narrow lanes lined with ancient trees and explore the historic buildings.
In the afternoon, head to Likeng Village. Take a walk along the river and visit the traditional houses. This village is a photographer’s dream, especially with the autumn leaves reflected in the water.
Day 3: Explore Sixi-Yancun Village
On your last full day, visit the Sixi-Yancun Village Complex. This is a peaceful, scenic area ideal for soaking in Wuyuan’s natural beauty without the crowds. Enjoy a leisurely day wandering through the streets, and don’t miss out on the incredible views of autumn foliage from the hills surrounding the village.
Day 4: Departure
If you have extra time before leaving, you could revisit any of the villages or enjoy a relaxed morning in Huangling before departing for your next destination.
3. Where to Stay in Wuyuan
To make the most of your trip, consider staying in a local guesthouse or boutique hotel that reflects the traditional architecture and offers scenic views of the countryside. Here are a few recommendations:
Huangling Guesthouses
Huangling Ancient Village Boutique Hotel: Located right in Huangling Village, this hotel provides easy access to autumn foliage views and offers cozy, traditional rooms.
Huangling Scenic Area Hotel: A mid-range option, it’s perfect for travelers who want a comfortable stay close to the village entrance.
Wuyuan City (Closer to Multiple Villages)
Wuyuan Qinghua Boutique Hotel: Centrally located, this boutique hotel makes it easy to reach different villages. It features traditional decor and modern amenities.
Wuyuan Tianma Hotel: A well-known option in Wuyuan town, offering convenience and comfort for those looking to explore multiple villages in the area.
For a more immersive experience, staying in guesthouses within the villages (Huangling or Likeng) allows you to enjoy the authentic charm of Wuyuan.
4. Practical Tips for Your Wuyuan Trip in Autumn
Getting Around: Since the villages are spread out, hiring a private car or a local driver is the best way to explore Wuyuan. Alternatively, there are buses, but they may not be as convenient for village-hopping.
Weather: Mid-November is cool and pleasant, with average daytime temperatures around 15-20°C (59-68°F). Pack warm layers, as evenings can get chilly.
Photography: Autumn in Wuyuan is a photographer’s paradise. Bring a good camera and be ready to capture the vibrant colors and picturesque village life.
Crowds: Wuyuan can get busy, even in autumn. Arrive early in the morning to avoid the biggest crowds, especially at popular spots like Huangling.
Local Cuisine: Don’t miss out on the local Wuyuan cuisine. Try regional specialties like Wuyuan Li Hongzao (red dates), Wuyuan rice wine, and dishes featuring local freshwater fish and bamboo shoots.
Hope the travel information above will be useful for you.
Have a nice trip to Wuyuan!

Dear Daniel,
I do appreciate your kindness in replying with detailed information. Also please accept my apology for being late response.
We still keep our plan going to China in which we will reach there very soon. I am so excited to visit China again after such a long period of time due to Covid since 2019.
Due to some reason we have to change our plan going to Sanqingshan (Jinsha Cableway), not from Shangrao but heading there from Wangxiangu in which I believe there are buses running from there. Could you please help me checking whether there are buses running that route.
Then from Jinsha we are planning to use ride-hailing app heading to Wuyuan. I have few questions to ask regarding Wuyuan attractions.
Is the Wuyuan 12 scenic spot 5 day pass inclusive of Shuimoshanghe?
As you explained Huangling Scenice Area ticket costs 145 Yuan (inclusive of cable car), how about only Huangling Scenic Area ticket? As I understand no need to buy cable car if staying at Xiaorong village. Please clarify.
Is the plan below ok to use Wuyuan 12 scenic spot 5 day pass + Huangling Scenic Area Ticket? I think it covers 5 days.
Does Wuyuan also offer discounted tickets for seniors? 70 yrs old.
I just recently knew about Shicheng about its autumn foliage. Therefore, I decided to add Shicheng in our plan. I have planned to visit Sixiyancun, Rainbow Bridge, Shicheng, Shuimoshanghe, Likeng, Wangkou, Xiaoqi, Jiangling, Jiangwan and of course Huangling. Please recommend me arranging attractions to be visited in what day.
Please see below our plan.
Day 1 Jinsha > Shicheng
Overnight in Shicheng
Day 2 Shicheng – visitting Rainbow Bridge and Sixiyancun today.
Overnight in Shicheng
Day 3 Shicheng > Huangling (in order to avoid crowds during weekend)
Mainly wander around Huangling
Overnight in Huangling
Day 4 Huangling > Jiangling – visiting Jiangwan and Xiaoqi today
I don’t know whether what can we see in Jiangling during November as it is famous for blooming rapeseed in which we visited Jiangling for blooming rapeseed in 2018.
Overnight in Jiangling

Day 2: Visit the iconic Rainbow Bridge and nearby fields to experience the stunning yellow rapeseed flowers, which bloom in March.

Day 4: Take a day trip to Wangxian Valley, known for its dramatic rock formations, lush greenery, and hiking trails.
Day 5 (Optional): Relax or revisit favorite spots before heading back.
Transportation Information:
While Ruqin China Travel is a travel advisory website and not a tour operator, we can offer advice on transportation options:
For group travel, consider hiring a local bus or van. Many travel agencies and transportation companies in nearby cities, such as Shangrao or Jingdezhen, offer charter services.
Public transportation (buses or taxis) is also available, though a private vehicle is more convenient for exploring these destinations.
Wishing you a fantastic adventure in Wuyuan and Wangxian Valley!
Best regards,

Hello,
I’m planning to visit Wuyuan – Wangxian valley – Sanqingshan in March Y2025. We are a group of 7 adults. I have found that your website is very informative and provides useful responses. Thanks for your great work.
I still have some questions which need your advice.
After 2 nights in Wuyuan, I’m planning to go to Wangxian valley then to Sanqingshan
1. Is there a direct bus between Wangxian valley and Sanqingshan? How much and how often? Is it possible to go by taxi? How much?
2. For 7 adults, how much does it cost to hire a private van or 7-seats car for travelling around Wuyuan. I will stay in Jiangwan and plan to visit Jiangling and other towns on east route.
Thank you in advance for your response.
Best regards,
Su

Thanks for the useful info.
Where can I rent a car with a driver? at Wuyuan high speed railway station? Do you think we need to book in advance during high season?
Can you provide me contacts of some car rental companies, if possible?
