This one-day walking tour takes you from the bustling Qianmen Street, through Tiananmen Square, the majestic Forbidden City, and up to the panoramic views at Jingshan Park. After a traditional Chinese lunch, continue along the Axis to the serene Wanning Bridge, the iconic Bell and Drum Towers, and finally, unwind at the vibrant Shichahai area. This tour perfectly blends Beijing’s rich heritage with its modern charm.

Itinerary:
Morning:
Qianmen Street
Start your day at 8 AM with a private transfer from your hotel to the southern end of Qianmen Street. Stroll along this historic commercial street, soaking in the lively atmosphere and traditional architecture that reflect old Beijing’s bustling marketplace.
Walk towards Tiananmen Square, the world’s largest public square. Explore the square.
Tiananmen Square
Tiananmen Square is a sprawling expanse in the center of Beijing. It stands as a symbol of China’s rich history and vibrant culture.
The Forbidden City
From Tiananmen Square, enter the Forbidden City, the largest imperial palace complex in the world. Follow the Central Axis through the Hall of Supreme Harmony, the Hall of Central Harmony, and the Hall of Preserving Harmony, immersing yourself in the splendor of China’s imperial past.
Jingshan Park
Exit the Forbidden City from the northern gate and proceed to Jingshan Park. Climb to the top of Jingshan Hill, where you can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of Beijing. The Wanchun Pavilion at the summit is the best spot to capture the full expanse of the Central Axis, flanked by symmetrical structures and scenic vistas.
Midday:
Traditional Chinese Lunch
Enjoy a traditional Chinese lunch at a nearby restaurant, savoring authentic Beijing flavors as you rest and recharge for the afternoon adventure.
Afternoon:
Wanning Bridge and Jade River
After lunch, continue along the Central Axis to Wanning Bridge. Built during the Yuan Dynasty, this bridge is one of the oldest surviving stone bridges on Beijing’s central axis. Spanning the Yuhe River, its structure is crafted from bluestone with a simple yet imposing design, and the sides are adorned with intricately carved stone railings.
Not only a vital thoroughfare, Wannian Bridge also serves as a testament to history and culture, having endured changes through various dynasties while preserving its original character.
Bell and Drum Towers
Ascend the Drum Tower and listen to the ancient beats echoing across the city. These twin towers, with their commanding presence, have marked time for the city for centuries and offer stunning views of the surrounding neighborhoods.
Shichahai
In the late afternoon, walk to the Shichahai area, where you can enjoy the picturesque lakeside scenery. This vibrant area is filled with bars, cafes, and small shops, making it an ideal place to relax and soak in the local atmosphere. Dinner is on your own; you can choose from a variety of restaurants offering both local and international cuisine, or continue to explore the lively Houhai area.
Evening:
Return to Hotel or Free Time
After your tour, you can opt for a private transfer back to your hotel, or stay in the Shichahai area to explore more on your own and enjoy Beijing’s night scene.
