Hey there,
We’ll be heading to Hangzhou next month and are trying to figure out the best place to stay. We’re looking for somewhere not too far from the city center. We were considering Yan'an Road or Jiafang Road but aren’t sure if they’re the best spots. Any recommendations would be really helpful!
Thanks!

Hi,
Thanks for reaching out! Hangzhou is a beautiful city, and I’m happy to help you choose the best area to stay.

Yan'an Road and Jiafang Road are decent options, but they’re a bit more commercial and might not give you the full Hangzhou experience in terms of the city’s charm and scenic spots. Here are a few areas I’d suggest:

1. West Lake Area (Xihu District)

This is probably the most iconic area to stay in Hangzhou. It’s very close to West Lake, which is the city’s main attraction. You’ll find lots of hotels with views of the lake, great dining options, and easy access to scenic spots like Leifeng Pagoda and the Su Causeway. It’s a bit more touristy but definitely worth it if you want to be near the main sights.

  • Budget: You can definitely find good options around 800 RMB per night, especially if you book in advance.

2. Wulin Square Area

If you want to be closer to shopping, dining, and a more lively vibe, the Wulin Square area is perfect. It's not too far from West Lake, and you'll have access to lots of modern amenities, malls, and good public transport connections to get around the city.

  • Budget: There are some great hotels in this area within your budget, especially in the surrounding side streets.

3. Lingyin Temple Area

For a quieter, more peaceful stay, you could consider staying near Lingyin Temple (in the northern part of the city). It's a bit farther from the city center, but you’ll be closer to nature, with easy access to hiking spots, tea plantations, and the famous temple. This area is much calmer than the West Lake area, but still easily accessible by taxi or public transport.

  • Budget: There are mid-range hotels and boutique guesthouses here, and you’ll find some affordable options within your price range.

4. Hangzhou East Railway Station Area

If you're arriving by train, the Hangzhou East Railway Station area is a good base. It’s a bit more modern and a hub for transport, so you’ll find good connections to other parts of the city, plus plenty of restaurants and shops. It’s a more local area but still close enough to the main attractions.

  • Budget: Hotels around this area tend to be reasonably priced and should fit your budget.

To sum up:

  • If you want to be close to the main attractions, West Lake area is ideal.
  • For a bit more modern and lively vibe, go for Wulin Square.
  • For a more serene, nature-oriented experience, consider the Lingyin Temple area.
  • If convenience is key, especially for transportation, the Hangzhou East Railway Station area is a good choice.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you need more suggestions or help with bookings.Cheers,
