Hi Daniel
Are we able to visit the Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall on our own, or must we make a reservation? Clicked on reservation online but it didn't lead anywhere. Write to them, no reply too.
Do we have to follow a Travel/Tour group to visit?
Kindly advise.
Thanks.
Regards
Oliver

Hi Oliver,
Thanks for reaching out again!
You don’t need to join a tour group to visit the Nanjing Massacre Museum—you can go on your own. However, you must make a reservation in advance.
How to Reserve Tickets:
- Booking opens daily at 8:00 AM (China time), and you can reserve tickets 1 to 7 days in advance.
- Do not use the official website—it’s unreliable. Instead, you must book through the museum’s official WeChat account. Almost all ticket bookings in China are done via WeChat.
- Tickets sell out fast (though It is free), especially during peak seasons, so it’s best to try booking right at 8:00 AM.
Reservation Details:
- There are two areas:
- Nanjing Massacre History Exhibition 南京大屠杀史展区
- "Three Victories" Special Exhibition "三个必胜”专题展区
These require separate reservations.
- Official booking method:
- Follow the WeChat account: 侵华日军南京大屠杀遇难同胞纪念馆 ( 在微信公众号里找)
- Click “预约” (Reservation)
- Select the exhibition area
- Fill in your details
Important Notes:
- Valid ID is required (passport for foreigners). Non-mainland visitors need to exchange their reservation for a QR code at the entrance.
- Capacity limits:
- History Exhibition: 25,000-35,000 visitors per day
- "Three Victories" Exhibition: 10,000-20,000 visitors per day
One last tip—WeChat is a must-have when traveling in China. It’s used for almost everything, from ticket reservations to payments. If you don’t already have it, I highly recommend setting it up before your trip!
Let me know if you have any questions.
Best,
Daniel

Hi Oliver,
I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share some information I found online regarding the ticketing policy for the Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall , which might work in your favor.
According to the current policy, any visitor aged 65 or older—including foreign visitors—does not need to make a reservation in advance. Your husband, being 65, qualifies for this exemption. He just needs to bring a valid age proof, such as his passport (or another internationally recognized document), to the "Priority Service Window" at Gate 1 for ticket exchange ( 前往纪念馆1号门的“优待人员免预约服务窗口, 即观众服务中心去换票,门票还是需要的).
Additionally, one accompanying adult (regardless of nationality) is allowed. You, as his accompanying person, also do not need a separate reservation. Just make sure you both go together to the designated window to complete the ticket exchange process. If your husband requires any assistance, there are facilities like free wheelchair rentals available as well.
I hope this clarifies everything and makes your visit smoother. Please feel free to reach out if you have any more questions.
Wishing you both a wonderful journey!
Best,
Daniel
