Hi Oliver,
You're very welcome! I'm happy to help.
Regarding your question, the core scenic area of Zhujiajiao is free for everyone, so you and your 70-year-old companion can explore and enjoy the town without an admission fee. However, there are a few specific attractions within the town that do require a ticket. Based on my understanding, these paid attractions still charge foreign visitors over 70 years old. But still try your luck!
I've visited Zhujiajiao a few times myself and never felt the need to buy tickets for those paid attractions. To my understanding, these spots may not be government-run, which is why they charge an entrance fee. These are the attractions you’re trying to book via WeChat (80 yuan or 60 yuan). That said, the atmosphere of the ancient town itself is already a wonderful experience—perfect for relaxing and soaking in the vibe.
Wishing you a fantastic trip! Let me know if you need anything else.
Best,
Daniel
