Wow Daniel, you are really awesome, n I took notes of everything you wrote. Very very helpful indeed!
By the way, instead of customized tour to Xitang, Nan Xun then to Wuzhen, am I able to book taxi to take us from Shanghai (less expensive)? Would you be able to send me their emails fore to check pls?
Thanks again!
Regards
Felix

Hi Felix,
Super glad my info was helpful!
So, if you're looking to get from Shanghai to Xitang, Nanxun, and Wuzhen without a customized tour, here are your best options:
Option 1: Full Ride with Ride-Hailing Apps (Most Convenient, Costs More)
If you prefer the easiest way without any hassle, just use DiDi (滴滴出行) or Gaode Taxi (高德打车) to book a cross-city ride. No emails needed—just book via the app and confirm with the driver that they can take you across provinces. It's just like Uber but way more convenient in China!
- Total cost: Around ¥800–1,000 for the full trip
- Super easy: No need to worry about transfers or getting lost
- Booking: You can do it yourself via app, ask your hotel front desk to book, or even ask at the tourist centers in scenic areas
- Pro Tip: Download the app in advance and link your payment method!
Option 2: Budget-Friendly Public Transport (More Local Experience)
If you’re cool with a mix of buses, trains, and taxis, here’s a more affordable and local-friendly way to do it:
1_ Shanghai → Xitang
- Take a direct long-distance bus from Shanghai Long-Distance Bus Station or Shanghai South Station
- Duration: ~2 hours
- Cost: ¥35–50
- Booking: Get tickets via Trip.com (supports English) or at the bus station
2) Xitang → Nanxun
- Step 1: Take Bus K222 from Xitang to JiaShan South Station 嘉善高铁南站 (~40 mins, ¥2)
- Step 2: Then choose:
- High-speed train to Huzhou 湖州 (1 hour, ¥80), then take Bus 101 to Nanxun (~1.5 hours)
- DiDi/taxi directly (~1.5 hours, ¥250–300)
3) Nanxun → Wuzhen
- Best Option: Take the direct Nanxun–Wuzhen Tourist Bus (~1 hour, ¥15)
- Alternative: Hotel front desk or tourist center can book a taxi (~¥150–180)
Extra Booking Tips:
- DiDi Global supports international numbers, and you can link Visa/Mastercard for payments
- If you can read Mandarin, you can download Gaode (高德打车软件). In China, we use Gaode most.
- Hotels can book taxis for you—just give them the destination names in English
- Tourist centers at each ancient town can help with ride bookings to avoid overpricing
If your budget is flexible, I'd recommend the first option—way smoother and faster. If you want a more local adventure and save money, the second option works great too!
Let me know if you need any more tips! Enjoy your trip, and have a blast exploring these charming water towns!
Cheers,
Daniel
