Hi Carrie,
I'll be arriving in Wuhan this May and want to visit Wudang Mountain. I’ll be staying in Hankou—what's the best way to get there? Should I take a train, bus, or subway? Would really appreciate your advice!
Thanks!
Linda

1. High-Speed Train / Bullet Train (Recommended)

Taking the high-speed train is the quickest and most comfortable option. There are several trains from Wuhan to Wudang Mountain West Station, with travel times averaging just over 2 hours. Here are some recommended trains for 2025:

  • G3230: Departs from Hankou Station at 12:22 pm, arrives at Wudang Mountain West at 2:33 pm (2.18 hours). Ticket: around ¥200 (second class).
  • G9375: Departs at 2:12 pm, arrives at 4:35 pm (2.38 hours).
  • D5778: Departs at 11:15 am, arrives at 2:07 pm (2.87 hours).

Post-arrival transport: Once you arrive at Wudang Mountain West Station, you have a few options to reach the scenic area:

  • Take bus Danjiangkou 301 (2 stops, 10 minutes) to Haokou Xincun station, then walk to the entrance of the scenic area.
  • Or take a taxi (about 15 minutes, ¥20-30).

2. Regular Train (Best for Budget Travelers)

For those on a budget, regular trains like K or T series trains are available. They take longer but cost significantly less:

  • T672: Departs from Wuchang Station at 8:58 am, arrives in Shiyan Station (near Wudang Mountain) in about 5.5 hours. Ticket: around ¥70.
  • Regular trains can be as low as ¥32, but they take 7-8 hours to reach Shiyan.

Post-arrival transport: Once you arrive at Shiyan Station or Wudang Mountain Station, take bus 202 to the scenic area (¥4-5, 1-hour ride).

3. Self-Drive (For Flexibility and Freedom)

If you prefer a more flexible journey, you can drive from Wuhan to Wudang Mountain:

  • Route: Wuhan → Fuyin Expressway (G70) → Shiyan → Wudang Mountain Exit.
  • The total distance is about 350 km and takes around 4-5 hours.

Parking: There are parking lots at the entrance to the scenic area, and you’ll need to transfer to a sightseeing bus (cost included in the ticket price).

4. Long-Distance Bus (Ideal if You Can’t Get a High-Speed Train Ticket)

There are several direct buses that run from Wuhan to Wudang Mountain, especially if high-speed train tickets are unavailable:

  • Depart from Fujiaopo or Hongji Bus Stations. Buses run daily with multiple departures.
  • The journey takes about 5-6 hours, and tickets cost ¥100-150.

Note: During holidays, buses can get crowded, so it’s a good idea to buy tickets in advance.

5. On-Site Transportation (Getting Around the Scenic Area)

Once you arrive at Wudang Mountain, you have several options for getting around:

  • Sightseeing Bus: Your ticket includes the full mountain sightseeing bus service (¥90), which allows unlimited hop-on-hop-off rides around the area.
  • Cable Car: A round-trip ride from Qiongtai to Golden Summit costs ¥150, with one-way tickets available for ¥80. This is a great way to save energy if you’re planning to hike.

Tips & Recommendations:

  • Time Planning: Wudang Mountain requires at least 1 full day for exploration. It's best to arrive a day early or take an early morning train.
  • Ticket Booking: For high-speed trains, it’s recommended to book tickets in advance through the official 12306 platform. For entrance tickets, you can buy them on the official Wudang Mountain platform. A combined ticket for the Golden Summit and Zixiao Palace costs around ¥264 in 2025.
  • Holiday Alerts: During major holidays like Golden Week, hotel prices and cable car tickets may go up. Consider traveling during off-peak times for the best experience.

Whether you're on a budget or looking for speed and convenience, there’s a travel option that suits every preference. Enjoy your trip to this majestic mountain!
