Hi,

I'll be arriving in Xi'an by train from Beijing in the evening and flying out from Xi'an Airport to Shanghai at the end of Day 3. I’ve already booked a hotel in the city center.

Can you recommend a good itinerary for my time in Xi'an?

Hi there,

Thanks for your message! Based on your schedule with two full days in Xi'an, here’s a suggested itinerary that covers the must-see spots while making the most of your time.

Day 1: Arrival (Evening)

  • Arrive in Xi'an and check into your hotel. Since you'll be arriving at night, you’ll probably just want to settle in and rest after your journey from Beijing.

Evening (Optional)

  • If you have the energy after checking in, you could take a stroll through Muslim Quarter for some late-night snacks and explore the vibrant street food scene. It's a great spot for grabbing a quick bite, like the famous lamb skewers or a bowl of hand-pulled noodles.

Day 2: Full Day in Xi'an

Morning:

  • Terracotta Army: Start early with the highlight of Xi'an—the Terracotta Warriors. It’s about an hour’s drive from the city center. A visit here will take 2–3 hours, so plan to spend the morning exploring the three pits and learning about the history of China’s first emperor.

Afternoon:

  • Big Wild Goose Pagoda: After returning to the city, head to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, a historic Buddhist pagoda with beautiful gardens. You can spend some time here, take in the views, and visit the nearby Da Ci’en Temple.
  • Xi'an City Wall (Optional): If you have time, head to the City Wall and either walk or bike along it for some great views of the city. It’s about a 20-minute taxi ride from the Big Wild Goose Pagoda.

Evening:

  • Muslim Quarter: Finish your day by diving back into the Muslim Quarter to explore the lively streets, check out the markets, and sample local food. Don’t miss the famous roujiamo (Chinese “hamburger”) and biangbiang noodles. It’s a great way to experience Xi’an’s unique mix of cultures.

Day 3: Last Day in Xi'an

Morning:

  • Shaanxi History Museum: Begin your day at the Shaanxi History Museum to get a deeper understanding of Xi'an’s rich history, from the ancient Zhou Dynasty to the Tang Dynasty. It’s one of China’s top museums and entry is free (just make sure to get there early to avoid crowds).

Afternoon:

  • Great Mosque & Ancient Cultural Sites: After the museum, visit the Great Mosque, which blends Islamic and Chinese architectural styles. You can also check out nearby attractions like the Bell Tower and Drum Tower, located in the city center.
  • Huaqing Hot Springs (Optional): If you have more time and want something more relaxed, consider a quick trip to Huaqing Hot Springs. It’s about an hour from the city center and offers beautiful gardens and hot spring baths.

Evening:

  • Head to the airport for your evening flight to Shanghai.

This itinerary should cover the main highlights of Xi’an while giving you enough time to explore and enjoy the city. Let me know if you need further suggestions or adjustments!

Safe travels, and enjoy your time in Xi'an!

I hope this works for you! Let me know if you need any more details.
