A New Gateway to Beijing’s East
Beijing has a new arrival: Beijing Tongzhou Railway Station (北京通州站). Opened on December 30, 2025, this gleaming underground terminal is not just a transport hub—it’s a bold statement.
Tucked between canals in the fast-developing Tongzhou District, the station welcomes travelers into what’s being called Beijing’s sub-center, a place blending tradition and urban future.

I arrived on a chilly winter morning, stepping into a sleek, three-level structure that immediately felt different from the older Beijing train stations. The air was fresh, the space massive yet thoughtfully organized. The first thing I noticed? Silence—no chaotic crowds, no blaring announcements—just quiet efficiency.
You could call it a “station,” but really, it’s more like a city beneath a city. There’s a sunken plaza, a commercial street, even 160+ exits—yes, one-six-zero—designed for smooth flow between intercity trains, metro lines, city buses, and even bike lanes.
Here, modern meets ancient. The name “Tongzhou” dates back nearly 900 years, from the days of canal shipping and imperial grain transport. Now, with high-speed rails shooting across the Beijing-Tangshan (京唐), Beijing-Binhai (京滨), and Huaihua-Xinglong (怀兴) lines, the legacy continues—only faster.
Beijing Tongzhou Railway Station Overview
Below the surface, the station unfolds like a multi-layered city. At B3, you’ll find 8 platforms and 16 lines handling bullet trains traveling up to 350 km/h. These tracks connect Tongzhou directly to cities like Tangshan, Baodi, Tianjin, and Xiong’an New Area—all in under an hour.

Above the platforms, B2 is your waiting area. It’s airy, calm, and doubles as a transfer zone to the subway and suburban rail. When I visited, there were plenty of signs in English, helpful staff, and smooth transitions.

On the B1 level, you’ll find the entrance hall, which blends modern travel with lifestyle perks: a sunken square, a shopping street, and even a community passageway. This is where transportation meets urban design—China’s first to install fire-resistant platform doors in an intercity rail station.

And yes, the station is built for convenience. It’s connected by 11 ramps for cars, and if you’re heading to the airport, good news: it’s just 15 minutes to Capital Airport, and 35 minutes to Daxing Airport.
How to Get to Beijing Tongzhou Railway Station
Getting here is easy—once you know the options.
Address: No. 201, Yangtuo Village, Tongzhou District, Beijing 北京市通州区杨坨村201号
I took the Beijing Subway Line 6 to Beiyunhe East Station, then walked around 600 meters to the train hall. It’s a pleasant walk, even in winter, passing by new developments and the frozen canal.
Prefer a bus? The station has already adjusted 8 local bus routes and launched 2 custom lines, reaching key spots like Tongzhou Old Town, Beijing Universal Resort, and major hospitals.
Coming by car? There are 880 parking spaces, smart navigation, and dedicated drop-off zones on B2 for taxis and ride-hailing apps like Didi.
Even bikes have their space—1,585 parking spots for non-motor vehicles line the hub. If you like to ride like a local, this station has your back.
Things to Explore Near Tongzhou Station
While most travelers rush toward the city center, I recommend staying a while. Tongzhou offers a slower, more soulful side of Beijing.
Just a short ride away is the Grand Canal Forest Park, a tranquil place perfect for walks, bike rides, and watching old men play chess under willow trees. There’s also the Three Cultural Landmarks (三大文化建筑): a library, theater, and museum complex that’s part of Tongzhou’s cultural revival.
I stumbled into a quiet teahouse near the station, run by a local artist who offered jasmine tea and stories about the area’s canal history. “This station,” he told me, “is like opening a new door for the old city.” I couldn’t agree more.
Beijing Tongzhou Railway Station Train Schedule
Though train schedules change often, you’ll find regular high-speed services to:
- Tangshan – ~55 minutes
- Baodi – ~26 minutes
- Beichen, Tianjin – ~56 minutes
- Qinhuangdao – ~90 minutes
- Xiong’an – ~60 minutes
These lines are part of China’s effort to integrate the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, making Tongzhou a vital part of the future.
To check current schedules, I recommend using 12306 China Railway app or asking at the English-language service counters inside the station.
Beijing Tongzhou Railway Station isn’t just new—it’s meaningful. It’s a modern marvel that honors its past, reshapes Beijing’s future, and makes travel across northern China faster than ever.
If you’re looking to explore beyond the tourist trail, this is your portal. Come for the trains—but stay for the charm, the culture, and the stories waiting at the edge of the city.
