The hours between hotel checkout and an evening train can be useful sightseeing time. They can also become frustrating if you are pulling a suitcase through Beijing’s long subway passages and crowded security checks.
The simplest answer is to leave your bags at your hotel if you will return to the same area. If your final stop is a railway station, storing them at that station may save a cross-city journey. Selected Beijing subway stations now have lockers, while a few attractions offer their own tightly controlled service.
Choose the storage point according to where you need to collect the bag—not merely where you happen to be in the morning.
The Best Option for Each Situation
| Situation | Usually the best choice | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Arriving before hotel check-in | Your hotel | Confirm that early bag drop is available |
| Sightseeing after checkout | Your hotel | You must return before reception closes or before departure |
| Several hours before a train | Your departure station | Large stations take time to enter and navigate |
| Visiting the Forbidden City with a suitcase | The Palace Museum’s official service | Same-day, attraction-specific rules apply |
| Visiting major attractions such as the Lama Temple | A luggage-storage facility is located across the street from the entrance | You will need to carry your luggage there yourself. |
| Exploring near a participating subway station | A station locker | Sizes and availability are not guaranteed |
| Taking an overnight side trip | Your hotel, with written confirmation | Do not assume free multi-day storage |
| Spending a layover near the airport | Airport luggage storage | Returning to the airport may waste city sightseeing time |
Whatever you choose, keep your passport, wallet, bank cards, essential medicine, electronics and irreplaceable items with you.
Hotel Storage Is Usually the Easiest Choice
Most established Beijing hotels will hold luggage for registered guests before check-in or after checkout. Same-day storage is often free, although this is a hotel service rather than a citywide entitlement.

Travelers leaving their suitcases with a Beijing hotel receptionist after checkout
Ask reception before leaving the building. Confirm the latest collection time, whether the desk remains staffed overnight, and whether you need the claim tag as well as your passport. Photograph the tag in case the paper is misplaced, but keep the original.
Hotel storage works best when your final sightseeing stop is near the hotel. For example, a guest staying around Wangfujing could check out, leave a suitcase at reception, visit Dongsi or the hutongs, then return before taking a taxi to the station.
It works less well if the hotel is far from your departure point. Returning from the Summer Palace to a Qianmen hotel and then crossing the city again to Beijing Chaoyang Railway Station can use more time than the sightseeing itself.
Ask Before a Multi-Day Side Trip
Some hotels will hold a larger bag while a guest spends one or two nights at the Great Wall or in another city, especially when the guest has another booking at the same property. Others will not.
Get approval in writing and ask whether there is a fee. Do not leave a bag for several days after an informal conversation with one employee, particularly if a different team will be working when you return.
Storing Bags at a Beijing Railway Station
Luggage storage at a railway station is useful when you have an afternoon or evening train and do not want to return to your hotel. Most of Beijing’s major railway stations have self-service lockers, while some also provide staffed storage counters.
Lockers normally come in small, medium and large sizes. A large locker can usually hold a suitcase of up to about 29 inches, although dimensions vary by station and operator. Typical charges are ¥3–¥6 per hour, with a daily maximum of about ¥20–¥40.

One of the luggage facilities (寄存处 ) at Beijing Railway Station
Before making a plan, check the Chinese name on your train ticket:
- Beijing Railway Station — 北京站
- Beijing South Railway Station — 北京南站
- Beijing West Railway Station — 北京西站
- Beijing North Railway Station — 北京北站
- Beijing Chaoyang Railway Station — 北京朝阳站
- Beijing Qinghe Railway Station – 北京清河站
- Beijing Fengtai Railway Station — 北京丰台站
These are separate stations in different parts of the city. Storage at Beijing West is of no help if your train leaves from Beijing South.
Luggage Storage at the Main Stations
The following information was reported between July and September 2026. Locations, prices and operating hours may change, so check again before travelling.
Beijing Railway Station
Several self-service storage points operate around Beijing Railway Station.
Lockers near Subway Exit B are about 100 metres from the station. Charges are generally ¥3–¥5 per hour, with a daily maximum of around ¥25–¥35. Some are available 24 hours.
There are also Xiaotie (小铁) and Hive Box (丰巢) lockers northwest of the Beijing Station West Footbridge. Depending on locker size and operator, prices are roughly ¥2–¥6 per hour, with daily limits of ¥20–¥48.
Beijing West Railway Station
Self-service lockers can be found near several entrances and exits. Typical rates are ¥3–¥6 per hour, with a daily maximum of approximately ¥20–¥40.
Many lockers operate from about 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., although some nearby facilities remain accessible for longer. A 24-hour locker facility has also been reported outside the Real Railway Hotel near the North Square.
Do not assume that every locker is available around the clock. Check the collection deadline before leaving the station.
Beijing South Railway Station
Beijing South has several storage points around the north entrance, exit areas and multi-storey car park. Some independently operated lockers are accessible 24 hours, but their rules vary.
The station also provides an official luggage-storage service for passengers holding a same-day train ticket. Medium and large lockers are available, but stored items must normally be collected on the same day. Current station guidance says that luggage cannot be left overnight and should be collected before the stated evening deadline.
China Railway Express also operates staffed luggage services around the P3 parking area. Charges depend on the item’s dimensions, generally ranging from about ¥10 to ¥40 per day, with an additional charge for larger items.
Because several operators work around Beijing South, always check which service you are using. A 24-hour locker outside one part of the station does not mean that the official station storage counter follows the same hours.
Beijing North Railway Station
Beijing North has lockers on the eastern side of the first-floor waiting hall. They generally operate from about 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., charging approximately ¥3–¥6 per hour, with daily limits of ¥20–¥40.
Additional lockers can be found near the southwestern side of the basement waiting area. Some offer the first 15 minutes free. Reported charges for up to eight hours are approximately ¥15 for a small locker, ¥20 for a medium locker and ¥30 for a large one.
Qinghe Railway Station
Self-service lockers are available near West Entrance 1 and in the second-floor waiting hall. They generally charge ¥3–¥6 per hour, with the first 30 minutes free and a daily maximum of ¥20–¥40.
Additional lockers can be found in the unpaid area on Basement Level 1 of Qinghe subway station. Daily charges are capped at approximately ¥15–¥30, depending on locker size.
How to Find the Storage Area
Locker locations inside Beijing’s railway stations can change. Signs may also be easier to recognise in Chinese than in English.
Show your train ticket to an official information-desk employee and ask:
请问行李寄存处在哪里?
Qǐngwèn xíngli jìcún chù zài nǎlǐ?
“Where is the luggage-storage area?”
You can also check the Railway 12306 app or the China Railway Express (中铁快运) WeChat mini-program before travelling. However, not every independently operated locker will appear there.
Allow Enough Time
Give yourself at least 30 to 45 extra minutes to enter the station, pass security, locate the lockers, collect your bag and walk to the correct waiting area. Allow more time during national holidays and summer weekends.
Beijing’s stations are manageable once you understand their layout, but they are much larger than many first-time visitors expect. Some lockers are outside the main waiting area, while others can only be reached after entering the station.
Before closing the locker, confirm:
- The operating and collection hours
- The hourly rate and daily maximum
- Whether overnight storage is permitted
- The maximum storage period
- The accepted payment methods
- Whether you need a same-day train ticket
- How to reopen the locker if your phone loses power
Keep your passport, wallet, medicine, electronics and other valuables with you. Photograph the locker number and save the collection code or receipt.
Current official Beijing guidance confirms luggage-storage facilities at the city’s major transport hubs, but individual operators maintain different prices and hours.
Luggage Lockers at Selected Subway Stations
Luggage lockers are available at an increasing number of Beijing subway stations, particularly near major attractions, shopping districts and transport hubs. However, they are not installed at every station.

Luggage storage at Qinghe Subway Station
By late 2025, Beijing’s official international portal reported 171 locker units across 76 subway stations. Additional lockers continued to appear in 2026, including at Universal Resort Station.
Useful locations for visitors include:
- Xidan Station — shopping and central subway connections
- Dengshikou Station — convenient for Wangfujing
- Dongsi Station — central hutongs and Longfu Temple
- Nanluoguxiang Station — Nanluoguxiang and nearby hutongs
- Andingmen Station — Wudaoying Hutong and northern old Beijing
- Zhushikou Station — Qianmen and the southern Central Axis
- Beigongmen Station — near the Summer Palace
- Olympic Park Station — Bird’s Nest and Water Cube
- Panjiayuan Station — Panjiayuan Antique Market
- Military Museum Station — museums and connections near Beijing West
- Qinghe Station — railway and subway interchange
- Universal Resort Station — Universal Beijing Resort
The most practical locker is the one that fits your sightseeing route. Beigongmen can be convenient for a Summer Palace visit, while Nanluoguxiang works better for a hutong walk. Do not travel across Beijing simply to reach a station with lockers.
Locker Sizes and Typical Charges
Most shared locker units offer three sizes:
| Locker size | Suitable for | Typical charge | 24-hour maximum |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small | Handbag, daypack or shopping bag | ¥3 per hour | ¥15 |
| Medium | Large backpack or small suitcase | ¥5 per hour | ¥25 |
| Large | Suitcase up to about 29 inches | ¥6 per hour | ¥30 |
These are standard rates reported for many Beijing subway lockers. Prices can differ slightly according to the station, locker operator and installation date. Locker availability is never guaranteed, particularly on weekends and public holidays.
How to Use a Subway Locker
Most lockers are self-service and require a smartphone:
- Scan the QR code on the locker screen.
- Open the operator’s WeChat account or mini-program.
- Select 存包, meaning “store a bag.”
- Complete the requested identity verification.
- Choose a small, medium or large compartment.
- Pay the initial charge.
- Place your luggage inside and close the door securely.
- When returning, select 取包, meaning “collect a bag,” and follow the instructions on your phone.
Some operators initially charge the 24-hour maximum. When you collect your bag, the system calculates the actual storage time and adjusts the payment. Any unused amount should be refunded through the original payment method.
The Xiaotie Luggage Storage (小铁行李寄存处) mini-program can show participating locations and the number of available lockers. The interface may be mainly in Chinese.
Important Advice for International Visitors
Some Xiaotie lockers require users to enter a Chinese identity-card number and complete facial verification. The operator’s published instructions do not clearly confirm that every locker accepts a foreign passport.
Before placing important travel plans around a particular locker, check whether the registration screen accepts your passport. If it does not, ask a subway employee for help or use a hotel, railway-station counter or staffed luggage-storage service instead.
Payment may also require WeChat Pay or another Chinese mobile-payment service. Do not assume that an overseas bank card can be used directly at every locker.
Check the Location and Collection Time
Some lockers are inside the subway’s paid area, while others are outside the ticket gates. If the locker is inside, you may need to enter the station again and pass another security check when collecting your bag.
Operating hours generally follow the station’s service hours, but they vary. A locker described as allowing storage for up to 24 hours is not necessarily accessible throughout the night.
Before closing the door:
- Check the collection deadline
- Confirm the hourly and maximum charge
- Photograph the locker number and nearby station exit
- Save the payment record and collection instructions
- Keep your phone charged
- Remove passports, medicine, electronics and valuables
- Allow extra time before a train or flight
Subway lockers are helpful for a few hours of sightseeing, but they should not be your only plan before an important departure. If all the large compartments are occupied or the identity-verification system does not accept your passport, you will need another storage option.
Luggage Storage at the Forbidden City
The Palace Museum provides free luggage storage and transfer for visitors with valid admission tickets. This service is designed around the Forbidden City’s mainly one-way visitor route.

Luggage Storage at the Forbidden City
You leave your suitcase near the southern entrance before entering. Staff then transport it to a collection point near the northern or eastern exit. After completing your visit, you can collect the bag without walking back to the entrance.
This is more convenient than an ordinary locker, but it is only for Palace Museum visitors and same-day storage.
Where to Leave and Collect Your Luggage
The storage and collection points are in different locations:
- Luggage drop-off: Visitor Service Centre on the western side of Duanmen Square (端门广场西侧), before the main entrance security check
- Main collection point: Eastern side of the square outside Shenwumen, the Gate of Divine Might (神武门)
- Alternative collection point: Northern side of the square outside Donghuamen, the East Prosperity Gate (东华门)
Most visitors enter through Wumen, the Meridian Gate (午门), and leave through Shenwumen in the north. If you plan to exit through Donghuamen instead, tell the luggage-service staff when depositing your bag and confirm where you should collect it.
The service saves a considerable amount of walking. The distance from the northern exit back to Duanmen Square is not short, and visitors cannot simply walk back through the palace against the visitor flow.
What Can Be Stored?
The official service accepts:
- Suitcases
- Large bags and parcels measuring 20 inches or more
A small handbag or ordinary daypack may not need to be deposited. However, security staff have the final decision, especially if the bag contains restricted items or is considered unsuitable for the exhibition areas.
All stored bags may be inspected. Be prepared to provide your contact information when using the service.
Items You Must Keep With You
Do not place valuables or fragile possessions inside stored luggage. The Palace Museum does not accept:
- Cash
- Watches
- Computers and other digital devices
- Gold, silver or other valuable jewelry
- Flammable or explosive materials
- Fragile or easily damaged objects
- Food
- Items with a strong smell
I would also keep passports, bank cards, cameras, mobile phones, power banks and essential medicine with you. Remove these items before reaching the counter so that you do not have to reorganize your suitcase while people are waiting behind you.
Storage and Collection Hours
| Season | Storage hours | Collection hours |
|---|---|---|
| April 1–October 31 | 8:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. | 9:30 a.m.–5:10 p.m. |
| November 1–March 31 | 8:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. | 9:30 a.m.–4:40 p.m. |
The low-season collection time is 4:40 p.m., not 3:30 p.m. These are the Palace Museum’s published hours, but temporary changes may apply during public holidays or special events.
Keep the Claim Tag Safe
The luggage claim tag or receipt is the only official proof required to retrieve your bag. Keep it separate from the stored luggage and take a photograph of it.
The Palace Museum states that it is not responsible for losses caused by a visitor misplacing the claim tag. If the tag is lost, speak to staff immediately and be prepared to verify your identity and describe the luggage.
All bags must be collected before closing on the same day. Unclaimed luggage may be transferred to the relevant authorities.
Third-Party Storage Near the Forbidden City
If you are not visiting the Palace Museum, arrive before its storage counter opens, or need to collect your bag later in the evening, consider a staffed third-party storage point nearby.
Typical charges are around ¥20 per day for a suitcase and ¥10 per day for a backpack. These businesses are independent of the Palace Museum, so check the exact address, opening hours, reviews and collection arrangements before paying.
Use an established operator that provides a receipt or electronic booking record. Never leave your passport or other valuables as a deposit.
Luggage Storage at the Summer Palace
Luggage storage is available both inside the Summer Palace and through commercial operators near its main entrances. The best choice depends on your bag size and where you plan to finish your visit.
For a small bag, the lockers inside the park may be convenient. For a large suitcase, a staffed storage point near Beigongmen or Xiyuan subway station is often easier and less expensive.
Before choosing a facility, decide whether you will return to the same gate. The Summer Palace covers a large area, and collecting a suitcase from the wrong entrance can add considerable walking at the end of your visit.
Lockers Inside the Summer Palace
Self-service lockers are available inside the park. Visitors normally scan the QR code on the locker, select a compartment and pay through their phone.
Reported charges are approximately:
- Small locker: around ¥40 per day
- Large locker: around ¥60–¥80 per day
The system may request an advance deposit. After you open the locker and collect your belongings, the remaining deposit should be returned to the original payment account, usually within one day.
Prices and locker locations have not been published clearly on the Summer Palace’s English-language website. Treat these figures as a general guide and check the instructions displayed beside the lockers before paying.
Keep your passport and any document needed for ticket verification with you. Do not place cash, bank cards, medicine, electronics or other valuables inside the locker.
Third-Party Storage Near the Park
Several commercial luggage-storage platforms operate through shops, hotels and staffed collection points near:
- Beigongmen subway station, close to the North Palace Gate
- Donggongmen, the East Palace Gate
- Xiyuan subway station, about a 10-minute walk from the East Palace Gate
These services normally charge by item rather than by locker size. Typical rates are approximately:
- Backpack or small bag: ¥10 per item per day
- Suitcase: ¥20 per item per day
Commercial storage is usually more suitable for a large suitcase. However, these facilities are independent of the Summer Palace, and their locations, prices and opening hours can change.
Reported options include:
| Service | Approximate location | Reported hours | Typical charge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cunzhiji (存知己) | About 200 metres from Beigongmen Station Exit C | 6:00 a.m.–9:00 p.m. | ¥10 for a small bag; ¥20 for a suitcase |
| Tu Jiandan (途简单) | Near Donggongmen or Beigongmen Station Exit C | 8:00 a.m.–11:00 p.m. | ¥10 for a backpack; ¥20 for a suitcase |
| Xingliji (行李记) | About 200 metres from Xiyuan Station Exit C1 | 7:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. | From ¥10 per day |
| Whale Map Travel (鲸图出行) | Near Donggongmen or east of Beigongmen Station Exit C | 7:30 a.m.–11:00 p.m. | Around ¥5–¥9 for a small item; ¥9–¥17 for a large item |
These times and prices should be checked in the relevant app or mini-program on the day of your visit. Some locations are partner shops rather than dedicated luggage counters.
Choose the Storage Point Around Your Route
The Summer Palace is not a small enclosed attraction. A normal visit can involve several kilometres of walking, hills, long corridors and large distances between gates.
If you enter and leave through Donggongmen, storage near Xiyuan or the East Palace Gate can work well. If you plan to enter through Beigongmen and leave there again, use a facility near Beigongmen subway station.
A one-way route creates more difficulty. For example, leaving a suitcase near Donggongmen and finishing at Beigongmen means travelling back around the park to collect it. In that situation, hotel storage or a facility near your onward railway station may be more practical.
Before leaving your bag with a commercial operator:
- Confirm the exact address and collection deadline
- Book through the platform rather than paying informally
- Check recent reviews
- Ask whether a large suitcase will be accepted
- Keep the electronic order or receipt
- Photograph the bag before handing it over
- Keep passports, money and valuables with you
The Summer Palace’s official website does not currently provide detailed English information about luggage lockers, while nearby commercial listings change frequently. Check the latest arrangements before relying on a particular location.
Luggage Storage at the Temple of Heaven
The Temple of Heaven does not currently provide an official luggage-storage service inside the park. Visitors carrying suitcases need to use a commercial storage point near one of the entrances.
Most facilities are partner shops, hotels or smart lockers listed through Chinese luggage-storage platforms. Typical charges are about ¥10 per day for a backpack and ¥20 per day for a suitcase.
Where to Find Luggage Storage
Most storage points are concentrated around:
- Tiantandongmen subway station (天坛东门站), near the East Gate
- Tianqiao subway station (天桥站), convenient for the West Gate
- Temple of Heaven East Gate
- Temple of Heaven West Gate
- The area near the National Natural History Museum of China
Walking time from a storage point to the park entrance normally ranges from 5 to 15 minutes. Check the walking route on a map rather than relying only on phrases such as “near the Temple of Heaven.”
Typical Locations
The following examples give a general idea of the available locations. Exact businesses and operating hours may change.
| Area | Approximate location | Typical hours |
|---|---|---|
| East Gate | About 100–450 metres from Tiantandongmen Station Exits A2 or B | Approximately 7:00 a.m.–10:00 or 11:00 p.m. |
| Tianqiao | About 60–200 metres from Tianqiao Station Exit D | Approximately 6:00 or 7:00 a.m.–10:00 p.m. |
| West Gate | Near Tianqiao Station Exit A and the National Natural History Museum | Approximately 9:00 a.m.–9:00 p.m. |
One currently listed storage point near Tiantandongmen Station charges around ¥10 for a backpack and ¥18–¥20 for a suitcase. Its published closing time varies by location, demonstrating why same-day confirmation is important. toojd.com
Commercial Storage Platforms
Several Chinese platforms list storage facilities around the Temple of Heaven:
- Xiaotie Wuyoucun (小铁无忧存): Offers staffed locations and smart lockers. Some facilities charge by the hour, and selected services may provide luggage delivery.
- Tu Jiandan (途简单): Lists several points near Tiantandongmen and Tianqiao stations. Typical prices are around ¥10 for a backpack and ¥18–¥20 for a suitcase.
- Cunzhiji (存知己): Has partner shops near the East and West gates. Prices may be higher, depending on the location and storage environment.
- Ctrip Luggage Service (携程行李管家): May list partner hotels around the southern side of the park and the Chongwenmen area. Collection and delivery may be available for an additional charge.
- Meituan Luggage Storage (美团行李寄存): Lists participating businesses around the East and West gates, sometimes with app-based discounts.
These are independent commercial services, not facilities operated by the Temple of Heaven. A platform may advertise many nearby points, but some can be more than a kilometre from the gate or have inconvenient opening hours.
Choose the Correct Gate
The Temple of Heaven is a large park with entrances on different sides. Leave your luggage near the gate you expect to use at the end of your visit.
For a simple visit to the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, the East Gate is convenient because Tiantandongmen Station is on Subway Line 5. Storage near the station can work well if you enter and leave through the East Gate.
If you plan to walk from the East Gate through the park and leave by the West Gate, do not automatically store your luggage near the East Gate. Returning across the park to collect it will add unnecessary walking. In this situation, hotel storage or a facility near your onward railway station may be easier.
Book Before You Arrive
Storage around the Temple of Heaven can fill up during weekends, summer holidays and public holidays. Reserve through the operator’s official app or WeChat mini-program before travelling, especially if you have a large suitcase.
Before confirming a booking:
- Check the exact address and walking distance to the park gate
- Confirm that the facility accepts your suitcase size
- Check the latest collection time
- Ask whether overnight storage is allowed
- Book and pay through the platform rather than making an informal arrangement
- Keep the order confirmation or receipt
- Photograph your luggage before leaving it
- Keep your passport, money, medicine and valuables with you
For most international visitors, Tu Jiandan is straightforward when a nearby point is available, while Xiaotie may offer more lockers and flexible services. Reliability depends more on the individual location than the platform name. Check recent reviews, opening hours and whether the site is a staffed shop or an unattended locker before booking.
Luggage Storage Near Lama Temple
Lama Temple (Yonghe Temple, 雍和宫) can become crowded, so avoid bringing a rolling suitcase inside. If you are arriving from the airport or changing hotels, leave your luggage at a nearby commercial storage point first.

Storage Location: No.83 Street YongHeGong (雍和宫大街83号)
Two convenient options are:
- Near Yonghegong subway station Exit F: About 30–50 metres away, across the street and close to Wudaoying Hutong. This suits short, same-day storage. Opening hours are generally from around 8:30 a.m. until early evening.
- Opposite the main temple entrance: A storage point near No. 83 Yonghegong Street (雍和宫大街83号) usually has longer hours, accepts larger suitcases and may allow overnight storage.
Typical charges are approximately ¥10 per day for a backpack and ¥20 per day for a suitcase.
Check the latest hours and bag-size limits before arriving. The Cunzhiji (存知己) WeChat mini-program can help you find and reserve nearby storage. Weekends are busy, so book early if you have a large suitcase.
What About Other Attractions?
Some museums, parks and visitor centers provide lockers or a bag-deposit counter. Others restrict suitcases without offering a convenient public facility. Rules can also tighten during major events and holidays.
Treat attraction storage as part of that visit, not as a citywide left-luggage network. Check the attraction’s official notice for bag dimensions, prohibited items and collection time. A storage counter that closes with the museum is a poor choice for an evening train.
For Tian’anmen Square, do not arrive with a suitcase and expect an easy solution near the security entrance. Store it at your hotel, a suitable transport hub or a verified locker before entering the controlled area.
Third-Party Storage Services
Chinese apps and mini-programs list lockers or partner shops in some Beijing neighborhoods. They can be helpful when neither your hotel nor your departure station fits the route.
International visitors should use them carefully. Interfaces and customer support may be mainly in Chinese, payment may require a local mobile-payment setup, and the “storage point” may be inside a shop with limited opening hours.
Before booking, verify the exact entrance, operating hours, bag-size limit, cancellation policy and collection procedure. Look for a proper receipt, controlled access and recent reviews. Avoid any operator that wants to hold your passport as security.
A Realistic Airport-to-Train Example
Suppose you land at Beijing Capital Airport in the morning and have an evening departure from Beijing West Railway Station. A traveler may be tempted to store the bag at the airport, visit central Beijing, return to the airport, then travel to the railway station. That creates an unnecessary triangle.
A more efficient plan is usually to travel to Beijing West first, confirm and use its current storage service, then make one compact city visit. Return well before departure, collect the bag and proceed to your waiting area.
Do not build a full Tian’anmen–Forbidden City itinerary into a short transfer. Immigration, airport transport, station security and city traffic all contain uncertain waiting time. Qianmen, a nearby museum with a confirmed reservation, or a simple meal may be a better use of a limited window.
Before You Leave Your Bag
Use this short check:
- Confirm that the facility will still be open when you return.
- Remove passports, money, medicine, electronics and valuables.
- Photograph the bag, claim tag, locker number and storage location.
- Set a phone reminder for collection time.
- Keep the address and Chinese place name offline.
- Allow extra time for security checks and walking.
- Inspect the bag before leaving the counter after collection.
Ruqin’s Practical Advice
For most travelers, the hotel is the calmest option after checkout. Use it when returning does not distort your route. If you have a late train, storage at the correct departure station can be more efficient, but go early enough to find the facility without pressure.
Selected subway lockers are a welcome addition for sightseeing, especially around Xidan, Dongsi, Nanluoguxiang and Beigongmen. Still, treat them as a useful possibility rather than a guaranteed space.
Your best choice depends on your schedule, bag size, mobility and energy. Beijing involves long corridors, security checks and substantial walking. Plan the collection point first, keep valuables with you, and leave a generous margin before your train or flight.
