Tour Introduction
If you want to understand Chongqing, one of the best ways is through its food.
This evening walking tour takes you into the heart of the city—through lively pedestrian streets, hillside lanes, hidden alleyways, and neighbourhood corners where locals gather to eat. Along the way, you’ll taste some of Chongqing’s best-loved snacks while learning how the city’s bold food culture is shaped by its geography, history, and everyday life.
Your local guide will lead you beyond the main streets and into places many visitors would never find on their own. You’ll stop for several classic local snacks, try a few dishes that are more adventurous for curious eaters, and finish with a full sit-down meal at a local restaurant—often hotpot or another Chongqing-style home-cooked meal.
All drinks are included throughout the experience, including alcoholic drinks if you’d like to try something local along the way.
What I especially like about this tour is that it feels less like sightseeing and more like spending an evening exploring Chongqing through taste, conversation, and the rhythm of the city after dark.

Your Food Walk Through Chongqing
Jiefangbei Square
Your food experience begins around Jiefangbei, one of central Chongqing’s most energetic districts.
As you walk through the area with your guide, you’ll stop at a few scenic viewpoints and local landmarks while getting your first introduction to the city.
Chongqing is built vertically, and even a short walk here reveals just how layered the city feels—with towers above, narrow streets below, and river views opening unexpectedly between them.
Suggested visit: around 1 hour
Jiefangbei Pedestrian Street Food Stops
From there, continue into the busy pedestrian streets nearby, where the tastings begin.
You’ll sample a carefully chosen mix of Chongqing favourites—from savoury street snacks to small dishes locals grow up eating regularly.

Along the way, your guide will share the stories behind the dishes, where they come from, how they’re traditionally eaten, and why they remain such a big part of local life.
This part of the evening feels lively, casual, and full of flavour.
Suggested visit: around 1 hour
Shancheng Old Walking Trail & Local Dinner
Later, leave the busier streets behind and continue into Shancheng’s old hillside lanes, where Chongqing feels more local and intimate.
These narrow stone pathways wind through older residential neighbourhoods, small markets, stairways, and everyday street corners where local life continues much as it always has.

You may stop at a neighbourhood market, chat with local vendors, or simply wander through the backstreets while taking in a side of Chongqing many visitors never see.
The evening finishes with dinner at a local restaurant—often Chongqing hotpot, or sometimes a smaller family-style restaurant serving regional home-style dishes depending on the route and group preference.
It’s a relaxed ending to the tour, and usually one of the most memorable parts of the evening.
Suggested visit: around 1 hour
This experience is especially good if you enjoy discovering a city through food and walking, and want to experience Chongqing beyond the major landmarks—one bite at a time.
